More and more people are booking their vacations and doing the research online and travel agents are seeing less people walking through their doors. It is not only because you can book your vacation form the comfort of you home but generally, it will be less expensive as well. I still like using a travel agent as it is nice to speak to someone face to face but I still go online to research the place I am traveling to.
It is actually much easier to go to your travel agent armed with all the information including costs as it can make it much easier to find what you are looking for. Part of the problem is that they are often only perceived as a person who just books vacations when they are actually able to do so much more for you, like answering specific travel questions. They are particularly useful when you intend to travel outside of the United States and can help with any laws that might be relevant to where you’re going.
Some countries actually charge a fee to enter and also have restrictions about what you can take in and take out which aren’t usually publicized very well and easy to miss. Whereas the internet is about saving money and convenience, your travel representative is there to ensure you trip is trouble free and that everything you need is organized. Although I do not have any real problem with the internet it is the human approach that I prefer. It is an unfortunate fact that you cannot complain to the internet but you can to your travel agent; it may take a very long time before the internet can supply that sort of service. A few years ago when my husband to be and I decided to elope and get married, it was a real travel agent that helped make it all possible.
She was very sweet plus incredibly helpful and by the time I ended the 30 minute conversation with her, she had renewed my faith in them; she had given me many choices of where we could go that we’d have wonderful weather for the month we were planning to travel. She was able to provide a great deal of information, some of which she checked on my behalf and helped with finding out the cost which was obviously a priority. It was this help that enabled us to book the wedding and our vacation almost immediately which was not something we had planned on but there wasn’t anything else left to do. There is another reason why travel agents are better than the internet; you don’t get much of a response from a computer screen when you want to complain.
